Most recently I've noticed some problems running PrimoPDF on Win98 and WinME, while this issue goes back to QA to make sure that we can properly work with these environments, I will detail some steps how you can get around some of the installation problems that one may experience. The instructions below take for granted that the essential Primo files have been copied to your system.

Step 1-

Inside your PrimoPDf->Primomon folder you will see Primomon95.dll Rename this to Primomon.dll and place it in your system32 folder.

Step 2-

Create a printer Named PrimoPDf from a postscript Printer definition (of your choice). When asked which port you want to use, select the PrimoPort that should be defined.

Once you've taken these steps you should now have a printer named PrimoPDF that should launch PrimoPDF properly.

Hmmph... this makes it a lot less useful. Any possibility you can get the install working for 98/ME in the next version?

Greetings

During installation of PrimoPDF I was presented with the following error message -

"Error 2185: The service name is invalid. Make sure you are specifying a valid service name, and try again."

On closing the message, installation appeared to proceed and I followed the prompt to restart. When I discovered no PrimoPDF printer option was available, I followed the instructions regarding renaming the .dll file etc. Now I have a PrimoPDF printer option, but when I try to use it I get the following error,

There was an error writing to PrimoPort for the printer (PrimoPDF):
The printer command is invalid.

Any help would be appreciated.

PS - Still using Win98. Well! It took me four years to get it working the way I want it!

Hey Guys, Here's an update on the 98/Me status. I'm in the middle of writing a change to the installer that should work fine with the aforementioned environments.

In the Meantime, Hermit I noticed you had some problems. I'll go through my original post later today and try to give you some screenshots for the manual install.

The error you are seeing and posted in another thread is in fact not an error. It's just a return code telling us that the service was not available which is expected on 98/Me (as there are no services)

However, that being the case, until I get this finished, a manual install is the only way to get this to work. :( We're trying to hurry on the fix so expect it shortly.

****o,

I try to install primoPDF to win98 by following the manual instruction by Douglas. I rename the dll and move it to system32 folder. I then install a printer name primoPDF with Apple LaswerWriter driver and use the primoport.

After I reboot the machine, I then try to print something. I got an error message.
"There was an error writting to PrimoPort for the printer(PrimoPDF): the printer command is invalid."

What else can I do to make it work?

Thanks,

Jonathan

I am going to answer my own post if someone else has this problem. All you need to do is go the printer properties,
click on "Spool Setting" and disable "Bi-directional support for this printer" then hit apply and you are set.

PS: Thanks for making this nice tool and for free.

Does PrimoPDF play nice on Win95?

No, Primo won't play nice with Win95, didn't want to have to hassle with VXDs and the like. Since it's not supported by MS anymore we decided the trouble would've been too great.

Thanks for answering!! I love seeing that. And frankly, it would've taken me a while to think of that one.
