In the PrimoPDF printer setup options, there are several choices that I do not understand. Can you point me toward documentation on these issues? Specifically, what is done differently based on my selection of postscript
modes optimized for Speed, Portability, EPS, or Archive? Or, is the postscript just an intermediary, and it doesn't matter in the final pdf file?

I am interested because a friend is sending me PrimoPDF generated files, generated on a Windows box, and when reading it on my Linux box, it prints blank boxes instead of the desired characters. It appears as a font incompatibility issue, and I'm wondering if any of the PrimoPDF printer options will stop this problem.

Yes this could be due to a driver incompatibility. I would recommend that your friend installs a new postscript driver and assigns the primoport as the port to use. This will cause Primo to use a different driver (which will interpret the fonts differently) in creating the postscript file that it converts to PDF.
