How do I append Excel to Word?

I started by creating a PDF from a 1-page Word doc. Then I tried using Promo PDF to 'print' a 3-tab workbook to the same title as original PDF. I answer yes to the 'append' question. It looks like the process is running, but the excel file is not added to the PDF.
Has anyone else experienced this?
