View Full Version : My 'pdf' appears as "Filetype: File"?

Dear PrimoPDF,

I'm trying to create a .pdf which consists of a number of appended files - a Word document, and a series of high quality images. So, as you can imagine, it's a large file. I set it to "print" to PrimoPDF using prepress, which I understand produces the highest qualiy output, because I want to get the best of my images.

However, what is created has a generic windows file icon, as if it is not associated with any application. When I try to open it, the "Open With..." dialogue box appears. From there I can select Adobe Reader 9 and the file is opened. I can read it perfectly from then on - it is then treated as a pdf.

However, once I close Adobe Reader, this document which should be a .pdf still appears on my computer as a file, listed as "Filetype: File". It's problematic becuse I want to share this file with people. I want to upload it to the document sharing site, Slideshare.net, but it is not being recognised on there as a .pdf.

Any assistance would be apprieciated.

Thanks,
Pete

Would you be able to send me the document so I can take a look at it?

PM and I will provide you with my details.

Thanks Binh,

I should have said, I've since solved this problem by renaming my file "[filename].pdf". A simple, but not immediately obvious solution to a curious problem (shouldn't my output files already come with a pdf extension?)

Has anybody else encountered this quirk? Any ideas why it might be happening?

Thanks
Pete

I thought that might have been the reason. By default it should automatically have .pdf at the end of the filename.

You can try deleting this file 'PrimoPDFSet.xml' from C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data then try again to see if there is a .pdf extension in the filename when converting.

Note: PrimoPDFSet.xml is a file which contains the settings which are loaded by PrimoPDF when you print to the PrimoPDF driver. A new one is created with default settings if a user deletes the file.

See if that works.

On our site its possible to generate a PDF file: Acrobat Reader must be installed off course. By including this step in my script I get the following error: "JStudio SiteWalker - Browserautomation & Website valida has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
How to fix this problem ?

I don't think I quite understood your problem. Is this related to the original problem posted by peterandthehare?
