I've just downloaded the latest primopdf. I understand the difference between the screen/print/ebook/prepress choices, but it appears each of these may in turn be combined with either prepress, ebook or default ini configuration files. Can anyone explain this bit to me?
thanks

The basic differences are simply they create different quality file types depending on the most common use...
Screen: This creates the smallest file sizes but image quality is low as it is designed primarly for being viewed on screen and would not display well in print.
EBook: This is a medium file size with some image compression. This allows for a reasonable file size while still maintaining a reasonable image. This would not be a high quality file for printing but should get the job done.
Print: This is a larger file size in an attempt to keep high quality images for printing purposes.
EPress: This is the largest file size in an attempt to maintain full integrity of all images keeping as true to the source files as possible.
Custom: allows you to create your own custom settings if you wanted to be more specific than the previous options would allow.
In short they all accomplish the same basic job, they simply create different quality files depending on your use for them. The higher quality images will take longer to process and the file sizes will also obviously be larger. Each of these options simply includes settings that we believe are ideal given it's purpose based on our previous experiences.
