Hi!

I love your product but have run into a problem with multiple users on XP.

Both my wife and I have separate user accounts in XP, both with Admin rights.

I installed PrimoPDF on my account, in the default location. PrimoPDF works great on my account... but when my wife tries to use it on her account, nothing happens... and then when I go back to my account, the PrimoPDF dialog box is waiting for input from her print request.

Is there a way to get PrimoPDF to work on both accounts?

Thanks! And thanks for a great product!

Hi Beau,

The reason for this is that the keys that store the paths for Primo are stored under HKey_LocalMachine rather than CurrentUser, which means that it's looking at only one path for both users. I believe this can be changed, or a seperate reg tree can be used for each user, but I will have to look into the details. Your best bet would be to look into specifying reg access per user. I will look into a definative answer but if you find anything, please do post!

PS Thank you so much for the compliments!

Douglas,

Thanks for the reply!

I will look into your suggestions (I am having the same problem with another program as well)

I'd be interested in what you find out as well!

Beau

PS: Just thought you'd like to know, I used your program to convert my business cards into a PDF, enabling me to get much more use out of them, which I could not do until your product! Thanks again!

Well...this is a bit tricky, but I'm sure it's a product of Fast task switching. Have you tried installing seperately under both accounts? The problem is that the paths all source back to ones under your paths. The reason for this is that the system environment variables are set differently for each user. You can double check this by right clicking 'My Computer' Choose 'Properties' then click the advanced tab. You should see a button for environment variables. Make sure all variables share the same paths for both accounts and that might take care of it.

Keep me updated whether it works or not.

Thanks Doug!

I'll try that as soon as I get home!

I'll let you know what transpires.

Beau

PS: I have tried to install on both accounts but when I try to install it on my wife's account, PrimoPDF only gives me the option to uninstall. Doh!

Doug,

No luck...yet.

I'm still looking into it though... I think you may be on to something with the Environment Variables... I don't know enough about them or how to use them though.

Still researching it... have you come up with anything more?

Beau

I think redmon may need to be fixed to repair this behavior. :(

Old dinosaur that I am, I have actually installed the underlying bits on XP -- that is, gs and redmon -- and the behavior is exactly the same. If my son accidentally prints to my PDF printer, he gets nothing out. Then when I log in I see a mysterious dialog for a file I don't recognize.

Ironically enough, I installed PrimoPDF thinking the redmon source changes referred to in the license agreement would fix this problem.

Ah well, live and learn. I'll check in if I ever find an answer.
