This error started when I upgraded to 4.0
The error stops me printing completely in 4.0
When I went back to 3.2, the error still appears, but at least I can print.

Due to that fact you saw this error in 3.2 it would seem that the error is in the update client, because thats the only piece of .NET in 3.2

If that isn't the case try disabling the update check or deleting the update .exe from the APUpdate directory.

Does PrimoPDF check for an update every time you print?

The update option may be enabled/disabled in the settings, the frequency is based on what you put the schedule to.

There is no Update.exe, but I did find a program that looked like an updater, installed in the default folder, rather than the one I changed it to.

It now stops the error in 3.2, so I'm back to using that one without error, but it still appears in 4.0, even when deleting regitry settings and all folders before installing.

Removing/renaming the files APULauncher.exe, APUpdateClient.exe from the Program Files\activePDF\APUpdate folder should allow PrimoPDF 4.0 to function properly.

Also if your changing the install directory that may be causing the issue.

Try this out and let us know if this fixes your problem.

Installing it in the default folder does not work.
Removing the updater files does not work.
running primopdf.exe does not work.

Error is still as below:

System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

When does the error message pop up?

Do you even see the PrimoPDF interface?

Are you able to click on the Create PDF button?

What operating system are you using?

Where are you installing PrimoPDF to?

Error message pops up when I try to print, or when I try to run PrimoPDF.exe
I do not get to the interface to select any options.
I cannot create any files.

I am using XP, SP3 (this also happened on SP2)

I have .NET frameworks 1.1 Hotfix, 2.0 SP1 and 3.0 SP1
If any of these would create conflicts, I could try uninstalling them.

I am installing Primo to the default folder (I previously had it installed to C:\Program Files\PrimoPDF)

You also tried renaming the APUpdate utilities?

scheshire

I havn't tried renaming them, but I have deleted them

Try uninstalling .NET and reinstall 2.0 please.

I uninstalled primoPDF before trying to remove .NET

I am unable to uninstall, as add/remove programs says I have other programs that require it.

I tried a repair, but I still get the same error.

Please ensure that the programs you are trying to remove are not running while you are attempting to uninstall them.

The error I get when trying to uninstall .NET 2.0:

Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service pack 1 cannot be uninstalled because it will affect other applications that are installed. For more information, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=91126

I would suggest trying to follow the suggestions in that link.

The dotnetfix section particularly as it has helped me fixed several issues of my own before.

If that does not work there is an available uninstall tool for .net

scheshire

That page refers to .NET 3.0, and removal of .NET 3.0 beta. I can't see how anything on there refers to 2.0

zack.schofield

Theres a dotnetfx program for all the versions of .net

scheshire

Removed 2.0, and reinstalled

Still get unhandled exception

Renamed updater files... Still getting error

I think the best thing to do, is go back to 3.2, and delete the APUpdate directory once its installed

This will remove all .NET apps from the PrimoPDF process.
