This morning (31 March) I downloaded primosetup.exe and ran it. After "Finished - Spoolerservicestop" I got the message "Bad command or filename" several times in a DOS box. Nothing has been added to Start -> Programs and there is no new printer installed.
Might this have something to do with a version of Ghostscript already installed in C:\GS (which I use with GSView and MakePDF) and the Sourceforge software PDF Creator, which is also installed?
Help appreciated.

There shouldn't be a DOS box in the new installer. The spawned processes should run silently. Are you sure you ran the right installer? I'll double check the version up there and make sure it is correct.

All I did was follow the links like a good 54-year-old boy. I promise I didn't pinch the cookies. The EXE I ran is 10,324,105 bytes long. That's all I can tell you.

Give that a shot. You shouldn't see a command window at all.

You mean, spend another few dozen minutes on my dial-up connection? Oh, wonderful.

Sorry, failed to see where you're located. Go ahead and check the created date as the size would be different according to your partition size.

Delhi, India. I can see only date on which downloaded. As the second install file ran differently, it is reasonable to conclude that you had the wrong one up the first time. But I've done a couple of test runs on the installation and it seems OK. When I have the time I shall compare it with the other methods I use. Have to produce an article soon on this business.

Apparently there is an alternate download location floating around out there and it had an older version of PrimoSetup.exe on it.
The correct version has been placed into that alternate download location.

"... an older version ..."
I'd have preferred "wrong version" or "buggy version" or even "**** waste of time".
