****o Douglas,
I have converted a 427 page document (with many Visio diagrams) from Word to a PDF document using the (free) Primopdf tool. I noticed that some of the Visio diagrams do not print from the converted pdf file.
The following error messages were generated when I tried to print one visio diagram page from the printer.
(1) a drawing error occurred
(2) the document could not be printed
Question:
(1) What are your recommendations when using the free PrimoPDF tool to convert very large Word document files with many Visio diagrams?
(2) Have you seen similar errors generated in the past, and could our printing problems be attributed to the converted pdf file?
Thank you in advance for you help!

I installed Primo v2 last week and went merrily on my way converting documents to PDF.
To my horror several looked as though the source document was corrupt as the end result was unreadable except some Headings and charts.
With a bit of detective work & experimenting anything in the source document with a Times Roman font was unreadable
I uninstalled Primo and everything was OK. Re-installed Primo and all Times Roman fonts in the source document became unreadable again (Primo faithfully converted this unreadable text to PDF). If you selected this unreadable text in the source document and chose another font (Arial) then everything was fine.
I use Windows XP with Office 2003. I have installed Firefox & Foxit & Macromedia Contribute ('Flashpaper' in Contribute has an issue with Adobe Reader) so I leave it to you guys to figure out.
PS. Why is the resultant PDF output approx 3 times larger than the source file?

After I installed Primo my MSN messenger and MSN dialup didn't work anymore, so I unistalled it. Then I fixed it using one of the posts below that had a DLL file I could save to fix the one that didn't work anymore. I am still getting error messages for other things though. The main one is:
MSVCIRT.DLL is linked to missing MSVCRT>DLL:??_V@YAPAXI@Z
Does anyone know what this means or how I can fix it? BTW, I have Windows 98.

****o,
TrueType fonts are displayed very nicely. However, non TrueType fonts show as blank.
I have a document which contains the Courier font. When I print it with the PrimoPDF driver, the Courier font characters are blank.
I am using Free PDF Converter version 2.0.
Thanks

I am a new user of PrimoPDF, and all was working fine.
I am chosing the PrimoPDF printer, it brings up the popup box, when it goes to open the adobe reader to show you I am getting the following message " Adobe Reader could not open "Test Document.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachehment and wasnt correctly decoded)." I have tired uninstall both Adobe and PrimoPDF, but to no joy.
A mate also has primoPDF, and he has had no problems with it, he is on the same operating system, version of Adobe, etc. He also managed to convert the documents I was having problems with.
Please can someone advise?

****o, I work for a for a small software company which has a product primarily developed for the creative professional, so the Mac is our primary platform.
However we do provide a Windows XP version of the software. For our XP users we have always recommended they download PrimoPDF so they can email their estimates & invoices to their clients... recently we have started getting reports that our users can create PDFs with PrimoPDF but when they email them to their clients on the Mac Platform or Unix servers the PDF comes out garbled.
I have run several tests on my systems and I am coming up with the same problem. PDFs are supposed to be "Portable Documents", but if you can't open them with a different operating system's default viewer, then they are not portable.
I have noticed that other people have encountered this problem on this forum, but I did not see a response from PrimoPDF or a way so resolve this problem.
I have been extremely happy with the PrimoPDF product in the past, and would like to continue recommending PrimoPDF to our Windows users, but unless we can find a resolution to this problem, we are going to have to look for an alternative solution.
Thank you so much, and I hope to hear from someone soon.
Sincerely
Alyse

I had a similar problem. If the font was Times Roman and size was 11pt, the behaviour was very similar to what you described. In my case the cause was not the presence of PrimoPDF but the fact that PrimoPDF was selected as the default printer. Seting another printer to default cured the problem, which was only a display problem anyway. In windows, the display is WYSIWYG based on the selected printer. Hope this helps.

Yet another to add to the growing list.
I have just printed a 3-page MS Word 2000 document and, on initial view, a graphic on the page was totally scrambled.
After paging down to check the rest of the doc, on returning to page one, it was completely blank.
Judging by the number of similar complaints, the product has not been tested properly; you are supposed to do this yourselves, not leave it to your customers to do it for you.
Disappointed... :(

The configuration file "PrimoInterface.ini" should not be stored and accessed in the <program files>\activePDF\PrimoPDF\Files directory. For properly configured systems, a user does not have modify access to this file (or any other in the normal <program files> directory structure) and therefore the printing of PDFs will fail and the output will be a zero length PDF file.
Instead, the file should be located in the operating system supplied location that can be returned by calling SHGetFolderPath and passing it CSIDL_LOCAL_APPDATA or CSIDL_COMMON_APPDATA as the ID for the path that is required. You'll probably also want to supply "SHGFP_TYPE_CURRENT" as one of the flags as well... ;)
This is also a more important point to consider when assessing Vista compatibility.

Hi
I have installed lates version of primopdf on vista, it installs fine, the printer is created etc., but when printing to it nothing happens. I have tried pretty much all the suggestions opthers have posted here, but none of them makes a difference. when printing, it doesn't bring up the promopdf dialog, it just spools to the printer queue and dissapears quickly from there again. As the real developer guys for primopdf, do you have any suggestion as to what I need to do to get it to work under vista ?
Thanks

When it works, it is a wonderful tool. But there are too many bugs, bugs, bugs.
I had to figure this one out the hard way on some BIG documents. Don't know the cause, but it seems that when a document doesn't finish printing, say it hangs, or is corrupt somehow (this is impossible to tell until it won't print) it is done for with Primo. As a best practice now, I ALWAYS 'save as' before I print. Then if there is a problem, I can go back to my original and 'save as' again and get it to work somehow. This can mean just restart/reprint or some cut and paste work. Before you try to print anything again, restart the computer, get all the Primo attempts to stop, and keep restarting until it restarts clean (Primo doesn't open). Your spooler will be fine, and all will go along as it should. Like I said, don't know why this happens, only that it does. I have a document that I have many versions of that simply will not work with it at all. Repeatable. I copied the contents, pasted to a new header page, and it works fine. The header would print into PDF but the rest of the page was blank, so I guess there was something Primo didn't like in or shortly after the header. Now I have a new master for that document, seems to resolve the issue. Hope this helps.

Every now and then [out of the blue] Primo prints a pdf with bars at the bottom of a page [sometimes more than one page]. These are black, start near the bottom of the page and run down and off the edge, often covering over page contents, are sometimes single, sometimes in twos and threes, of varying width and length. What is causing it and what can I do to prevent it? I'm running Windows 2000, and the software is Pagemaker 7.
They seem to be stray elements, which I can sometimes remove using the full Acrobat program, advanced editing, but this can take some time as they seem resistant to being removed. It's happened many times and is a pain/time waster.
I have a sample page as pdf but not sure how to send or attach it so it can be viewed.

PrimoPDF fails for me (on two separate machines) when I have User Access Control on.
And...even with UAC off, PrimoPDF won't find my Adobe 8.1 reader and open the PDF just created.
Update please :)

I've been trying out the free version...
Some of my applications do not seem to correctly set the margins with PrimoPDF and the text or images are fitted on the eddge of the page.
I don't get this error with Adobe v4.1
Is there a setting I need to adjust?

I have been using Primo PDF for about a year now with no issues. Today I attempted to append one Microsoft Word document to another and it would not allow me to do so. I then deleted my old version of Primo PDF and downloaded the new version. I still am unable to append the documents and I now get an error message reading pdf creation failed: -21 Anyone no why this is happening? I have appended these same two files many times before with no problems. Also, I can create a pdf individually with these docs with no problems but I just cant append them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This error indicates that the file is encrypted. You will need to decrypt the file prior to the conversion.
Most likely your encrypting the first file the your trying to merge them.
Please let me know if this resolves your issue.

Thanks for your help. I documents did not seem to be encrypted. I think I had a corrupt folder. The reason I think this is because I created a new file folder and moved the documents to it. Once they were there they appended to each other just fine. I tried the original files again but they still didnt work out of the old folder. Bottom line id the program is working fine now. Thanks again for your quick response.

I have used PrimoPDF for a few years with no problems. Recently converted to VISTA and Windows 2007 not exactly sure if this is when problems started - but PrimoPDF no longer works. I get a very long error message and our tech person says it's a problem with Primo.

Did you dwonload an install the new version of Primo. Vista permissions may be preventing you from accessing relevant folders, files sockets etc. Disable UAC and see.

When I print from Quark Xpress Passport, output set to For Print or Preprint [both high res] it works fine, but when I print at Screen or PDF settings I get 'Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt' message. Very frustrating as I need to print lowres to send proofs by email. The second part of the message is nonsense, and since it prints high res/large files it can't be a memory problem - I have 2Gb RAM.
I keep seeing 'download latest version' as a proffered solution to various problems, but the links always go to a download free version, and since I paid, will this overwrite and thus revert it to the free version?

I used WordPerfect to create a newsletter and converted it to PDF using PrimoPdf. The PDF file was then e-mailed to a local commercial printing service for printing. I have been doing this for a year or more with no problems. The file contained phone numbers printed in the Hobo BT font. I used the PrePress option, as it is the only one that seems to correctly render the many photos I have in the newsletter. The manual states that PrePress embeds the fonts. However, in the printed document, although the Hobo BT font looked correct, certain numbers printed in this font had actually been changed to other numbers. Specifically, all the 2's were changed to 7's, as were all the 4's. So the number 3772 printed as 3777, and the number 46 became 76. All other numbers and text printed accurately. When I print the file on my home printer, all the numbers print correctly. And of course, they look perfectly correct in the PDF file itself. I have never experienced anything quite like this. Any suggestions how this could happen, or how to prevent it???

I've used PrimoPDF on a vista (ASUS) machine and its fine. Another Vista (on a HP) is not creating. It opens the Primo PDF window and when you click on 'create' It says "Streamline your PrimoPDF" and gives a Y/N option. Neither works. after either selection (Y/N) it gives an error message and closes the window. Anyone has a solution?

Hi, I have tried several times to get a pdf of files (using your online facility) that are just over 4MB (e.g. 4.39, 4.4) and each time I get an error 'maximum request length exceeded'.
Your webpage says it takes files up to 10MB.
I suspect that this error relates to ASP.NET's maxRequestLength setting. By default, ASP.NET limits requests to 4096 kilobytes (or 4 MB), as explained in this Microsoft KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;295626. This error will occur if an upload is larger than 4 MB and you have not adjusted the maxRequestLength setting for your application in web.config or machine.config.
FileUp Standard Edition can accept uploads of up to 4 gigabytes. FileUp Enterprise Edition can accept unlimited size uploads. However, when using the product in .NET, it is important to configure the application settings to make sure ASP.NET doesn't block the large uploads before FileUp can process them.
The maxRequestLength parameter is set in the httpRuntime section of web.config (or machine.config). maxRequestLength is set in kilobytes.
