I have been testing out PrimoPDF and am wondering what is exactly the difference between For Print and For Screen. I have read that For Print is optimized for printing and For Screen is optimized for viewing on screen, but I can't tell any difference when printing or viewing on screen. Is there a difference and if so what is it? Also, does one option create a larger PDF than the other? Thanks.

There are 2 factors that contribute to the size of the PDF :

1) The DPI setting of the PrimoPDF Postscript printer

and

2) The "For Print" and "For Screen" options when converting to PDF.

The DPI setting in the Printer setup affects both text and images. The PS driver will output any images up to the set DPI (and downsample those that are larger) and some applications, such as MS Word, will enforce stricter kerning and character placement for text resulting in more Postscript commands and, as a result, a larger file.

The "For Print" option means that PrimoPDF will downsample all images (if necessary) to 300 DPI and the "For Screen" option means that PrimoPDF will downsample all images to 72 DPI. Primo will not "upsample" them to the corresponding DPI. The two options have no meaning for kerning and character placement.

So....if you are printing 72 DPI images in a Word document but the printer is set to 600 DPI, you won't notice much of a difference between "For Print" and "For Screen".

If, however, you are printing 300 DPI images, you should notice a dramatic difference between For Print and For Screen.

For the lowest possible PDF size, set the DPI of the PrimoPDF printer (using the Page Setup command) to 72 DPI and select For Screen when prompted.

****o all,

Is there a way actually to have PRIMOPDF always set-up to PRINT by default versus SCREEN ?

Would be helpful in our case.

Thanks.
