View Full Version : 128 Bit Security Causes Reader Error

I am attempting to create a PDF in "My Documents" using a Word document.

Choosing 128 Bit Encryption causes Adobe Acrobat Reader to generate an error when attempting to open a PDF:
"Adobe Reader could not open 'test.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an atrtachment and wasn't correctly decoded).

I have specified a "password to change security". I get the same result with and without a "password to open".

Everything works fine if I select "40 Bit Encryption".

I am running Win2K with Internet Explorer version 6.0.2800.1106CO

I can not get the 128 bit security to work. The 40 Bit works fine.

I am running Adobe Reader 7.0.5 with IE 6.0 on Windows XP SP2.

I have the exact same problem (I'm using Adobe Reader v 7.0.5 - most current to date). I haven't tried the 40-bit security - I'll give that a go & see what happens.

I, too, must "chime in" on this thread to report the same problem opening PDFs created with PrimoPDF 2 using the 128-bit encryption.

Adobe Reader 7.0.5 and Acrobat Standard 6 reports a corrupt PDF.

The 40-bit encryption works OK, however.

Platform is Win XP SP2.

Thanks.

same problem here. :(
(on XP sp2).
the 128 bit files created have a filesize of 0 kb, the 40bit option works fine.

does someone know how to set the security-level auto to 40 bits? (by editing an ini file perhaps?)

Hi,

Maybe the pdf file has lost some data. I think you can try a utility called Advanced PDF Repair to repair your PDF file. It works rather well for my corrupt PDF files. Its web address is http://www.datanumen.com/apdfr/

Hope this will help.
