I've installed Primopdf 2 under user1.
THeir are 2 users on my pc, both have admin rights.
In xp two users can be logged on at the same time on one pc ("switch user").
If both users are logged on and user1 prints from any application to primopdf the primopdf screen is not displayed. After some seraching I've found that it is displayed but for the other user: if i log on as user2 the primopdfscreen is their with my printjob waiting.
Very strange and very annoying.
I don't expect there is a workaround: this must be solved on some programmatic level I guess.

I'm having exactly the same issue. When I print using PrimoPDF, the print dialogue for Primo shows up under the other user.
I'm not sure this problem is exclusive to Primo though. I'm also noticing that my virus scanner, AVG now starts up its scheduled scan under the other user as well. Not sure if this is relevant, but perhaps there is some windows issue happening for all of us...
Any ideas welcome.
thanks,
Lon

I've only had this happen with PrimoPDF. Very frustrating. Anyone? I think I'll try and find another pdf generator if support has no answers. :-(

I am running XP Pro on a computer with eight accounts.
For me also, when printing to Primo, occasionally the Primo window will open in another identity.
My experience is that it sometimes even becomes associated with an account that is logged off.
It becomes necessary to find it, close it, and rerun the install from the identity where you want to use the program.
Its not a big inconvenience for a free facility, especially given the quality of the result (I run Quickbooks, and I use Primo rather than the embedded facility which doesn't really give WYSIWYG.).
It would, however, be more convenient to have proper access to the facility from all identities without having to search for the running software.
Also, if no one is listening to this discussion, does the support stay the same for other products?
If anyone from development is listening, I would be glad to monitor results a bit more closely, but I'm not about to waste a lot of time on spec. to no end.

Just to chime in and hope the additional head count helps to get this resolved.. I too am using a single PC with multiple accounts. It doesn't seem to matter if only account is logged in or not, but when you go through the actions to print to a PDF file, the dialog/print screens pop up under the other user.

Sounds like i'm having exact same problem. I'm testing PrimoPDF on a Win2k3 Citrix\TS server and printing on any user session opens the window in the administrators console screen.
Have tried messing with the ini file, reg settings and permissions but it doesn't want to play at all.

Just installed PrimoPDF and had the same problem.
Fortunately I 'recognised' the problem because I had ever experienced this same issue with some antivirus software.
I reported it to them and they had it fixed in the next update (the antivirus guys...).
So obviously it is something that can be solved... ;)
So far this is the only issue I have found and PrimoPDF seems to do a very nice job!

BTW. Has anyone tried to install PrimoPDF for every possible user?
I mean:
- log on as user A, and install PrimoPDF,
- log out user A and log on as user B, and install PrimoPDF,
- log out user B and log on as user C, and install PrimoPDF,
- ...
This idea just ocurred to me and I haven't tried it myself yet, because I basically have only one user who uses PrimoPDF.

In Window NT and XP the first user logged in gets session 0. The next gets session 1 etc. Seems to me that the popup appears in session 0 and not in "currently active console session" (Microsoft-speak) as it should. Verify anyone?
By the way, in Windows Vista session 0 is reserved for system processes and the first user logged in gets session 1. I expect the current version of PrimoPDF will not work....

Dumuzi,
Not quite. The popup window always pops up in the user session in which PrimoPDF was installed.
I even noticed this: I booted the pc as user B (and PrimoPDF was installed under user A).
When I printed to PrimoPDF, the popup window did not appear. When I then switched to user A session (after loggin in), then I would see the PrimoPDF popup window on the user A desktop.
That's why I suggested to try installing PrimoPDF once for every possible user. Haven't tried this myself though...
Kind regards

Desert_Storm,
I have tested my theory and it seems to hold.
Try this test, which is a little different from the one I tried:
Boot computer
login user 1 (session 0)
login user 2 (session 1)
logout user 1 (session 0 is freed)
print from user 2
create a new user
login as this new user (session 0)
Kind regards

Dumuzi,

I have just come across PrimoPDF and have also found this problem. I have tried it on a second machine and found the following workaround:
1. Install under the userid administrator
2. Select the printer from control panel
3. Make it a shared printer
4. Under properties, select configure printer port
5. UNCHECK run as user
6. Run in normal window (default is hidden). This may not be necessary
7. Save the changes
This allows the printer to be accessed by non-administrator users.
A further tip would be to set up a common shared directory for files to be printed to as it seems to remember the last folder used. Can be an issue if users don't have access to all folders.
Haven't tried this on W2K yet.
Apart from this slight problem, a good package.

Desert_Storm,
It's in my opinion irrelevant. At least, it was not installed under the newly created user where you should see the popup if you try my experiment.
Also, when I first installed PrimoPDF, I thought it didn't work because the popup didn't appear. Well, the popup appeared in session 0, but I was in session 1 when I installed and tested it!
Kind regards
P.S.
Session numbers are used by Windows internally, but is usually not visible to the average user. It is possible to see the session number of a process in the task manager (processes) if you add the column "Session ID" to the view.

Jonwil -- Thank you for the work-around, but for whatever reason, it does not seem to work for me.
I have multiple users on a Windows XP Pro system, and for security reasons only one of those users has full Administrator rights. Whether I use your work-around or not, I see the same behavior: The Windows XP Pro user who logs in first after a reboot is usually the user who sees ALL the PrimoPDF printing dialog screens whenever ANY user attempts to use PrimoPDF.
I am now evaluating other PDF solutions, because I do not believe PrimoPDF properly handles Windows XP fast user switching or multiple user sessions.
Unless I've missed something, none of the PrimoPDF developers have ever contributed to this thread, and it only contains posts from Windows XP users who are experiencing the problem. This bug was first reported in this thread in October of 2004. I'm thinking that ~1.5 years of silence by the people who worked on PrimoPDF means this problem will not be fixed any time soon.

****o,
Me also have tried the Jonwil solution and it doesn't work for me.
I find this problem very annoying (I have 4 users but only one Admin).
I don't understand why the developers are not responding either way (will be fixed or will never be fixed). I tend to think like DDeel: it won't be fixed!...

I have not tried this yet, but another suggestion where a developer has responded is listed this thread: http://forums.primopdf.com/showthread.php?t=70
The thread is a bit older than this one, but I didn't see anyone on this thread (the one I'm posting to) going down this road so maybe it will work?
