Hi, the PDFs work great on Windows machines, but Mac users have complained to me that the PDFs show up as squares. Is this a font issue? And more importantly, how do I rectify the problem? Thanks.

I believe this to be a problem with the font substitution table and is exhibited by machines running 2k/xp/nt only The problem most likely doesn't happen on 98/me machines. The next installer will have this fixed as well.

So, here's a workaround:

In the resulting PDF file, there will be a few lines like so:

20 0 obj
<</Type/Encoding/BaseEncoding/WinAnsiEncoding/Differences[
1/J/a/n/space/hyphen/D/e/c/zero/four/O/r/d/i/y/I/o/m/slash/E/x/p/s/C/u/l/t/g/S/T
/H/F/L/h/G/P/f/B/k/v/M/A/R/w/U/N/comma/eight
50/six/period/five/ampersand/b/two]>>
endobj

There many be multiple groups of these.

If you simply remove them, the resultant file will work with Preview on MacOS X. The unmodified file will open fine with Acrobat Reader 7 on a mac, by the way.

So, yes, it's a font problem on 2000 for me, anyway.

So, when will the new installer be released? The sticky message mentions a week in Feb 2004. I downloaded in Feb 2005.

Otherwise, is there an easy way I can whack the font-substitution rules?

It seems to be a problem when the font is subsetted in the pdf. Thank you for letting us know.
