View Full Version : Primo printer does not show up

I've read through the other posted replies regarding this issue.
I have also successfully downloaded the primopdf printer, went through the set up wizard and have everything I should, where it should be...I'm running WindowsNT and Office 2000.
BUt, obviously I've done something wrong or missed something because the primopdf printer does not show up in my printer folders and I cannot add it (i.e. find it when browsing).
So, is this just a function of having to be logged on as an administrator and dowloading all over again to the same computer, or is there something else I should have done, or should do?
Everyone in our office needs to use this program asap, so any info would be greatly appritiated!
Cheers,wm

There seems to be a problem with the driver creation process in NT.
We're currently working on a fix for this. Are the workstations all NT as well?

We happen to know PrimoPDF and are quite eager to install this on our PC with Windows NT ver.4.0 sp3.
We seemed to have succeeded to install this on our computor. However, the PrimoPDF does not come up on the browser window to select printer.
Our situation is same as what some others are facing.
We strongly want to know the temporaly situation of fixing this problem.
In case this problem have already been overcome, we are quite interested to have the modified version of PrimoPDF.

Hi,
Any sign of a Windows NT4 fix ?. Could score me some brownie points with the Boss.

Don't like to me too, but I have the same problem on windowsXP sp2.
On some machines, it installs as it should, on others the install runs normal, but no printer is added.

Same problem here. Install runs succesfully, the printer is installed on some machines but not on others on the same network. Same OS on all machines, Win XP SP1...
can we see a fix to this problem soon? Seems like a really useful tool to have!

NT4 is probably not going to happen.
It's a lot of work to support an OS that was built in 1996. I'd strongly recommend an upgrade.
As for the others, the problem would either lie in the printer spooler service not being started, or perhaps a permissions issue with placing the driver files in the spool directory.
I would make sure that you are logged in as Local administrator on the machine and that the printer spooler service is running and then trying a reinstall.

It seems unlikely that it would take a lot of time to resolve this issue since PrimoPDF works fine on all later NT based Windows O/S, especially since you guys have been promising a fix for well over a year now. I have no choice about what O/S is running on the systems I am administering but need print-to-pdf capability on them.
If you have officially given up on supporting Windows NT4, you should remove it from the list of compatible O/S.
Otherwise, can you at least give a clue as to where the problem lies and a possible manual fix? I don't care if the installer does not work as long as there are instructions for what to do when the install completes.
Thanks...

The problem lies in the API calls to the printer spooler. There's a function that copies the drivers to your driver directory and calls a series of API calls to create a printer based on the drivers copied.
If you install your own printer and assign the primoport, it should work.

Mr. Saltsman: I created a printer and changed the device to the postscript device and created a port named primoport. I now see the primopdf printer and print to it, but it still does not create a PDF. I am running Windows ME. Please provide some guidance as to the following:
1. What type (brand) of printer should you define when you first create it, or does it matter?
2. What device name should be attached to the printer?
3. I presume you need to create a new port named primoport as your email suggests. What port type should this be defined as?
Thanks,
Clarence

I'm not sure what you mean by assign the primoport, can you please exbound on this issue. I am having the same problem with Window XP Pro, the primo printer is not showing up. I have tried to "add a printer" but to no avail.

I have created some install files that were posted in another thread (See: Does not Install on Windows NT4 SP6). They worked perfectly on Windows NT :) One is a port driver and the other is a printer driver.

Hi RobertS,
I am also interested in those INF files.
Your attachment is still pending approval so I hope you can also send me those files through email or perhaps post a direct link where us sysadmins who are forced to support WinNT can download them.
