file size

I convert word files into pdf for publishing on my web site. using primopdf.
usually the converted files are about 10% larger or smaller than the word files, but lately a 20 pages document ~ 500 kb converted into a file about 1 Mb. double that the original.
can it be normal?
please advise what can be the reason for this, how to convert the file into a sensible size and how to prevent such occurence in future.
thanks

Under Page Setup, in the Printer Properties, set the DPI to 72. Word has a tendency to tightly kern characters under higher DPI settings and that will create a much larger PDF.
