Size of PDF file very large

When I convert a MS Word document to PDF using PrimoPDF, the resultant file size is up to 3 times the size of the Word doc I am printing from. Other PDF creating programs usually come out at about a half the size of the Word doc. This makes a 21 page document very big for emailing, especially when I may have 3 or 4 to send at the same time. Word doc file size: 171 KB, PromoPDF file size: 428 KB, PdfFactory file size: 93 KB. Specifying For Screen or For Print doesn't seem to make much difference.

Is there anything I / you can do to reduce the size?
